I only have one more week!!!

Good afternoon ladies and gents,

This evening we are going to read possibly the last email from Sister Dunne.

Okay imma stop being dumb. BUT THIS IS CRAZY. MY LAST WEEK. Worst and best feeling ever. This is going to be a rough and dramatic lifestyle change so when I come home, don’t tell me i’m awkward. I already know it, yeah? hahhaha

Story time.

This week I ate a pitajaya (pee-tah-hi-ya) and it is the SWEETEST fruit i have tasted in my whole life. It just tastes like SUGARY GOODNESS. I was planning on buying lots this week so i could eat one every day…but it’s a good thing i waited to make that decision because it turns out that they have a laxidive effect. Imma leave it at that.

i love this fruit. it's called pitajaya
i love this fruit. it’s called pitajaya

Also this week, my companion and I were eating some ice cream and mine fell on the ground. I picked it up and ate the part that didn’t touch the ground. My companion repremanded me afterwards because men frequently pee on the sidewalks, walls and streets here. I need some other opinions. Is that reeeeally that bad?

Also this week, we saw a man walking down the street. He tore a branch off a tree and put it around his neck. Then he kneeled on the ground and started doing some sort of ritual drawing a cross in the air. He also casually had a sausage hanging from the top part of his dredlocks. That’s all I have to say about that.

So This last week, I bought some peppers to make a sauce from Peru called “Huancaina”. I was SUPER excited, but when i got the peppers out of the bag, i smelled the pepper and it smelled like a sweet pepper to me and I got super upset because i specifically asked the fruit and veggies lady for the hottest pepper. I decided to open it up and take a little bite to prove to my companion that the lady messed up with the peppers. I took the bite, and it didn’t have any effect on me…until I spit it out. THEN MY MOUTH BURNED LIKE FIRE. ohhhhhhh yeah. So I ran to the fridge and drank some milk as fast as I could…and that helped calm the burn down a bit.  After that experience, I started reflecting on life and on the gospel…and I came up with an analogy! Sin may not appear to have a negative affect on us at first. We may sin, and possibly confuse it for good at first saying “it’s not THAT bad”, and right afterwards feel fine. But as time goes by, whether it be minutes or years, we see the burn on our lives and the negatie, and painful effect it has on us. The only solution to get rid of the burn is to calm it down with milk. The milk may be the gospel…where we slowly learn how through Jesus Christ, we can eliminate that “burn” from our lives forever.

1 Peter 2:2-3

Which leads me to another question, after being baptized by water and receiving the Holy Ghost, how can we be purified and sanctified? How can we see and feel that difference in our lives? Let us look at Helaman 3:35:

“Nevertheless they did fast and pray oft; and did wax stronger and stronger in their humility, and firmer and firmer in the faith of Christ, unto the filling their souls with joy and consolation, yea, even to the purifying and the sanctification of their hearts, which sanctification cometh because of their yielding their hearts unto God.”

Now, how do we yield our hearts unto God? Just as it says earlier in the verse, when we fast and pray often, we become more humble, we strengthen our faith and are filled with joy and consolation which also comes from the Holy Ghost. Now when we yield our hearts unto God it also means that we are willing to do HIS will. We do not complain about our lives or circumstances or experiences or trials… we accept those things, find solutions, trust in God, and PUSH FORWARD. When we learn to be humble and to do as God wants, we receive a peace of conscience and a calmer, happier life.

As Christ assured us in D&C 29:L5, “Lift up your hearts and be glad, for I AM IN YOUR MIDST.” He is with us. Trust in Him.

I was also reading Mormon 8:28-41 and DANG those verses are so powerful! He is talking about OUR DAY. I encourage you all to read it and see what changes need to be done.

Well honestly…I don’t know what else to say. This is weird. I cannot believe that i will be in TRACKTOWN, USA in a week. Like I said last week, time has flown by…but I have grown immensely from this experience.

this is called chirimoya
this is called chirimoya

There is so much to say but I will just share my testimony with you all instead;

I know that God lives. His hand is in our lives more than we know. He loves us infinitely and despite our challenges and weakness, He always wants us to come back to Him. He has given us all we need to return to His presence, all He requires is that we follow Him and His plan.
I know that Jesus Christ lives. He is our Saviour and Redeemer. He literally felt the excruciating pain of each and every one of our afflictions, sorrows, griefs, regrets, and sins. He knows us perfectly. He suffered afflictions and temptations of all kinds and never fell once. He understands our difficulties and our weaknesses. He understands how to help us. He has shown us the perfect and joyous way. He has loved us always and still does when we make mistakes. He forgives us if we give an honest effort to repent and follow Him. He glorifies and strengthens those who are obedient both in actions and desires.
I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the restored church of Jesus Christ with all the necessary saving ordinances and the true authority of God Almighty.
I know that The Book of Mormon is true. It was written by prophets called of God in the ancient American continent. This book has changed my life and it has allowed me to know Jesus Christ on a more spiritually intimate level. I know that if we do not repent, it is not possible for mercy to have and effect on our souls and we, therefore, cannot be saved.
I know that in order to be saved, we must have faith on Christ, but that we also must act. (2 Nephi 25:23) I know that if we repent, are baptized by someone who has the power and authority of God, receive the Holy Ghost, and live the commandments joyfully and willfully until our very last day in this temple of flesh and bones… we will be exalted and be able to live with our Father in Heaven for the eternities.
I testify of the importance of doing family history.
( <–check it out 😉
We cannot be saved without our ancestors, and neither can they be saved without us. (D&C 128:15) When we do it, we learn more about ourselves, our potential, and our self worth as well.
I testify that families CAN be eternal and that we will see them after this life. We will be with them forever if we keep the covenants we make with God in this life, whole-heartedly.
I testify that you can change your life 180 degrees by living this excellent gospel. The gospel of Jesus Christ can heal any wound, spiritual or emotional, and it can give us a great hope in this life and the life after.

I love this gospel…I love Ecuador…I love the Lord and His perfect love…I love life aaaand I love all of you. When we acheive a perfect love as Jesus Christ (which i’m stiiiiiill working on), we acheive greater happiness. We judge less, criticize less, complain less, and worry less. Christ is our anchor when the seas of tribulations come our way.

The waves of temptations and trials may never end, but Jesus Christ has power to calm the sea. Trust in His power, and secure your anchor now.
Helaman 5:12. Ether 12:4.

I don’t know if I will email much or at all next monday…there really isn’t a point. Sooo…until we meet again, folks.

cool website:

Nothing is coincidence if we are following the Spirit of the Lord.

I back up the words in Jacob where it says”…our lives passed away like as it were unto us a dream…” (Jacob 7:26) What an incredible journey…OH WAIT. It’s not over yetttt!!! But man, has it passed by fast. Faster than I ever thought possible…and every day goes by faster and faster. Que miedo.

I feel like this mission has blessed me in more ways than I can name. One of these ways is that I have been able to be more receptive and aware of the Holy Ghost. He is so real and speaks to us daily, in many ways, we just have to have the right mindset and be aware of Him and we will hear Him.

THIS WEEK HERMANO FEDERICO SE BAUTIZO!! Wow, So Federico got baptized and it was GREAT, but it sure was an adventure. We left the baptismal font filling up early and when we went back an hour before the baptism, turns out that the drain had been opened and the font didn’t fill up AT ALL. So we frantically started filling up buckets from water spickets outside to get more water in the font as soon as possible…the water ended up being yellow because it was dirty. Half of the room’s lights didn’t work so it was mostly dark. There was no gas to heat up the water. aaaand much more….HAHAHHAAHHA IT. WAS. RIDICULOUS. But hey, he was happy. He made a great covenant with God, he made a lot of changes in his life, and the Spirit was strong. He’s a great guy.

Yesterday, we were visiting people after church and then it started to downpour. We ended up visiting the bishop. He recently got hit by a bull and is very injured. He can hardly move and is on medication. When we showed up, he got really excited and said “THIS is the Lord’s work.” Then he started to talk about how when we work through rain or whatever else may come our way, that THAT is where the miracles start to come. He was in such a fragile state…and the whole situation made me reflect a lot on life. We didn’t have plans to visit the bishop, we kind of decided last minute…but it was always in the Lord’s plans. It’s amazing how much God leads us into the lives of others. He led us to go strengthen our bishop, but the bishop ended up strengthening US. What I learned that night is a lot more profound to me, but it’s sufficient for me to say that God always places us into situations with a purpose. Nothing is coincidence if we are following the Spirit of the Lord.

We are also starting “la fe de febrero trae los milagros de marzo” or “the faith of february brings the miracles of march” like we did last year! Basically in this time, we can’t have any activities, we can only listen to hymns, and we make some spiritual sacrifices. Although it’s a bummer that we can’t have activities or anything, the spirit is a lot stronger. I am starting to get up at 6 instead of 6:30 and I study the new testament…then we ruuuuuun! It’s a really fun experience. I am happy to be able to finish this mission out strong…the Lord is powerful and God is great. Miracles are real and God answers our prayers frequently.

1 Thessalonians 2:17,20

James 4:10,14

Study it and do your best to reflect it in your behavior

This week has been amazing. I have grown a lot and I have been able to feel the Spirit of the Lord and His happiness and grace and mercy more in my life and it is the most exquisite feeling.

Something that impacted me a lot this week was reading the parable of the wheat and the tares in Matthew 13. The wheat represents righteousness and the tares represent evil/ satan’s traps and temptations. We must protect ourselves from the evil that slowly but surely soffocates our high moral standards, our joy in God and things of God, and most of all, the guide of the Holy Ghost.

OHHH HAHAHA so this week I made morrocho for breakfast. As I was eating, ants slowly started floating to the top. bhahahaha I WAS SO GROSSED OUT! We have an ant problem in the house. I guess they got into the sugar and I didn’t realize it…the good thing is that I was well nourished after that meal. Yes I finished it all.

This week our ward also had an activity and NO ONE PLANNED IT so we (there are 6 missionaries in our ward) had to wing it. It went decently well…but SHOOT it was awkward for everyone.

This week Craig C. Christiansen came and the zone leaders and sister training leaders from Quito were able to have a meeting with him!! It was very inspirational. I also had the priviledge of singing “I know that my Redeemer lives” with Hna Powley. She has an amaaazing voice. But, wow, i learned so much from him. What he said made me reflect a lot more on the Atonement and what it means for me. I have applied it more to my life by repenting more frequently and by striving to feel that true, limitless love for everyone i meet. It’s an incredible, uplifting feeling.

I have so much more to say but no time. I encourage all of you to take the time to study the Atonement in depth. See how you can apply it more to your life. Read the New Testament and 3Nephi chapters 11-28 and study Christ. Study His words, example, actions, attributes…everything He eminates…study it and do your best to reflect it in your behaviour, thoughts, words, and actions. It will truly elevate your spirit and you will feel one of the most refreshing, enlightening feelings.

I love Jesus Christ so much. He truly has saved my soul from all manner of danger and sorrow. He lives. He directs this church through a modern-´day prophet. He does all He can to help us return to both His and God’s presence. God micromanages everything for us here on this earth. Never doubt the presence of God. His hand is in your life more than you think. I know that is true, and i share it in the name of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, Amen.

Have a great week,
Hermana Dunne 🙂

Everyone who comes into our lives is there for a reason

shoutout to Tilly Bremner my cousin for the ADORABLE card she sent me!!!!!

This week there has been lots of rain. it’s cold here. nevertheless, we are working hard. The members that live in our house call me barbie and hna nethercott polly pocket. starting and ending the mission with that beloved nickname…

intense rain
intense rain

Today we went bowling as a zone. i got third. my companion schooled all of us. it was swell. I also ate cinnibon.

I will not be dragged to any malls when i get home either, just saying. forgot how much i hate malls. blehh

Well, something spiritual i learned this week is that we all must learn how to correct people with LOVE. If we don’t do it with love, we’re not doing it the Lord’s way. The Lord corrected others to help them and they ended up loving Him more. I love this gospel. Jesus Christ lives. Let us better ourselves daily.

Everyone who comes into our lives is there for a reason, whether it be for a day or a lifetime, you met them for a reason. Love them, don’t judge them, help them, uplift them, and strengthen them in every way you can. God trusts you with that responsibility. Service is love. And love is a commandment of God.

Be strong and push forward.

Hey folks,

Rainy season started. Ayyyyy!

This change we have 28 sisters to do divisions with so THAT will be SO MUCH FUN! They’ll keep me busy for suuure. AAAND Hna Zaragoza (mija) is in my region now!!! AHH.

Federico passed his baptismal interview and is ALL SET for his baptism this saturday!! ayyyy! He is the FUNNIEST guy ever. I love teaching people from the coast. They’re just alll funny. Buena gente, diga!

This sunday we also had LASAGNA for lunch! Second time in my whole mission. Definitely ecuadorian style though. There were hot dogs in it. haahhahah nevertheless, it was lasagna.

Yesterday I gave a talk on why this gospel brings us joy, analyzing the 5 principles of the gospel; faith, repentance, baptism, receiving the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the end. I invite you all to find scriptures and read the definition of every one of those terms…then look how you can receive joy from each of those things. It was really fun for me to study because I could see the reason behind it all as well. Heavenly Father really does have a perfect plan for us.

This week we had a specialized training with two other zones. President talked a lot about that talk i mentioned last week and also a talk called “Approaching the Throne of God with Confidence” ( which is FANTASTIC. There are 6 points we can follow and seriously if we strive to follow through with them, we become more confident. We begin to have a refreshing view of the world and ourselves, and we have a new energy to do what’s right.

The six points he hits are:

1. Take responsibility for your own spiritual well-being.
2. Take responsibility for your own physical well-being.
3. Embrace voluntary, wholehearted obedience as part of your life.
4. Become really, really good at repenting thoroughly and quickly.
5. Become really, really good at forgiving.
6. Accept trials, setbacks, and “surprises” as part of your mortal experience.

I invite you all to read or watch this talk. It’s powerful; Changed my perspective a lot.

Be strong and push forward. Christ is mighty to save, you are able to repent, God is loving and merciful, and everything is in your favor to receive eternal joy. Discover it through living it and ask “the mormon missionaries” about the plan of happiness…or plan of salvation! It’ll change your life if you listen with open ears so you can hear, open eyes so you can see, and an open heart so you can understand–because THAT is how the Holy Ghost can testify to you of the truth.

read mosiah 4:2-3 to learn how you can know if you’ve been forgiven of a sin after repenting and pleading for forgiveness through prayer.

That’s all i’ve got for y’all this week! I hope you have a good one. 🙂

Con todo mi shunku,
Hermana Dunne

ps–you should all visit this site:

Do NOT be ashamed of being virtuous.

For the record, I’m NOT trunky. I am working harder than ever. Just had to get that straight. Buut I also want to ask all of you to not talk to me about ending my mission because it’s sad and I don’t want to think about it. Thaaaaank YOU.

This week my companion found an ant in her study journal and she wasn’t too happy about it. But it was only giving us the example…we must FEAST upon the words of Christ. Just sayin.

I love having Hna Nethercott as my companion for many reasons, one of them being that she reminds me a lot of my mom in the sense that she gets the tune of the song right but she puts whatever lyrics she thinks is right in there. Very funny.

I saw 4 of my companions this week....Zaragoza, Rojas, Berrospi & Nethercott
I saw 4 of my companions this week….Zaragoza, Rojas, Berrospi & Nethercott

My hand also got stuck in the pringles container this week, so that was good.

There are a lot of things I learned this week. One of those things I learned is that we must fear God more than we fear man. I invite you all to read the talk “Which way do you face?”

(you can find it here:

It is a very inspirational talk to help us realize where our priorities are at. We have to remember that we are representing Jesus Christ TO the people. Not the people TO Jesus Christ. If we testify that we LOVE God and praise Him, then we must not let our standards or morals down because of what others are doing. If we do that, we are reversing the order of the two greatest commandments, which is essentially apostasy. If we lower our standards, we are lowering the highest and most sacred standards there are and we will only add to the spiritual and emotional death of humanity.

In the moment we choose between right and wrong, many things may stand in the way of us choosing what’s right; we may fear gossip, rejection, or humiliation. we may desire popularity or acceptance instead of doing what God desires and requires of us. Why is this? Why do we tend to want more temporal things in life? Why do we fear what others think? Why do we choose wrong over right just because we want to be accepted? Jesus Christ states boldly in the new testament that He was hated before any of us were. He was rejected before any of us were. And if we follow Christ whole-heartedly and we KEEP His commandments, do you think we would not receive the same kind of rejection or solidarity? Because we will! If we do not do things of the world, we will be hated and rejected as Christ was. We may not have to suffer what He suffered, which was greater than anything we are even capable of suffering, however we will receive rejection or the feeling of being alone. We may feel alone in moments of choosing the right or standing up for and defending morality and virtue which we must cherish as sons and daughters of God, but we are never left alone. We may feel rejected, hated, abused, shunned, or even ridiculed for what we do, but we must not back down. Defend the truth. Defend Christ’s legacy and live it. Do NOT be ashamed of being virtuous. Do NOT be ashamed to be innocent or naiive to profane things. Protect yourselves with the eternal company of the Holy Spirit by reading your scriptures, praying always, going to church, and keeping every one of God’s commandments to a tee. He will bless you. He will comfort you. He will elevate you to a greater joy and spirituality. He will bless you with opened eyes and a charity-filled heart. He will bless you with purity, which is greater than all.

I love this gospel. Jesus Christ lives. These things are true, and if you test it out and put it all to practice, you will see that what I am saying is true. Trust in God’s promises and live worthily to receive them. In the name of Jesus Christ, Our Saviour and Eternal Friend, Amen.

With lots of love,

Happy New Year & Merry Christmas all in one post:)

HAPPY OLD YEAR!(as they say here)  New Years really creeps me out…they make all these paper mache dolls or masks and they put the masks on stuffed bodies. The bodies are stuffed pants and shirts put together to look like people. On new years eve at midnight they burn them in the street because they are supposed to represent the old people they were and that they are starting new this year. Or it’s just because people generally like to burn things. Either way, not the biggest fan. THOSE DOLLS ARE CREEPY! And most of them have horror movie faces.  They were everywhere. I took “not amused” photos. So  we stayed inside, studied, drank something siiiiimilar to apple cider, and we made our goals for 2015!!! Some members also brought burritoes to our house which was probably the highlight of the day.

the New Year's dummies and masks

The people are craaaazy here… there are men called “widows” and they dress up like women and roam the streets dancing on cars or standing in the middle of the road in SUPER short dresses, begging for money. Some people put up cords so you can’t pass until you pay them. I don’t know if it’s illegal or just no one cares but I just felt slightly uncomfortable. But seriously I forgot how loney and sleep depriving new years eve is as a missionary. Didn’t sleep a wink that night.

Can you BELIEVE it’s already 2015?!?! I can’t. I just got here in 2013, what the devvv!! Anyway. Here are some of the goals I made:

– Read the Bible from the very beginning to the very end.
– Read my scriptures every day
– Exercise 5 days out of the week
– Do something kind every day
– Criticize less, act more.

That last goal, for me, means that I will stop criticizing myself, and just fix what I need. I will also stop judging others or situations and just act to help the person or change the situation.

Last night, we were leaving an appointment and we were running late….hahhaha that’s funny…so we started RUNNING and I didn’t see that the sidewalk was wayy chueco and i TRIPPED AND ATE IT SO HARD. Seriously I flipped and rolled….suuuuuuper embarrassing. The member saw me and came running to help and was freaking out but he helped me get some alcohol on those wounds. Scraped up and bruised everywhere. But nothing too serious.  Just a  FAT LIP. So that was a highlight for sure. -__-

my fat lip:(

So  I have been pondering life a lot… life is very precious and delicate. We probably don’t realize many things until we are put in the position to either leave it or keep doing it. For example, watching movies with sexual connotation; there are movies that are really funny but they have some sexual scenes or off color jokes in them. Our brains will remember those things more because they are more risque and will stand out more to us. When we are going through our day and we aren’t thinking necessarily about anything, thoughts tend to pop into our minds. Sometimes scenes from those movies might pop into our minds. Or it could be lyrics to a song that speak immorally or speak of topics that aren’t uplifting for our minds. If we have to refrain from listening to a certain artist for the rest of our lives, or any movie that has any type of sexual connotation…would we choose to do that?  Would it be a hard decision to leave it?  Would we have a fight within about still watching or listening to it? If so, we must remember that we should love God more than we love sin. And it may not be a great sin seeing or hearing things like that, but it will drag us down slowly, and our souls will progress spiritually slower and slower until they are going backwards, away from God.

This is something I plan on doing when I get home. Analyzing all that I do or watch or listen to and make sure that it is something that will uplift me and help me progress, because if not I will leave it behind. There is SO MUCH we can do if we are purer and purer before God. There are SO MANY blessings awaiting us. So many gifts God can give us–in the form of blessings, opportunities, joys, or even talents that we can use for our benefit and the benefit of others. My point is that the purer we are, the more elevated is our intelligence, ability to choose correctly, our joy, and our ability in all aspects of life. God causes us to rise above all and remember that we are divine children of Him with a divine purpose. The closer we get to Him, the more we become like Him and we see the divine talents and abilities that He has given us that we didn’t even know existed before.

My Christmas post:

Me dressed up as otavaleña because i miss it AND a member from Quinchuqui sent me an anaco (the skirt) but sewed as a skirt instead of having to wrap it around me!
Me dressed up as otavaleña because i miss it AND a member from Quinchuqui sent me an anaco (the skirt) but sewed as a skirt instead of having to wrap it around me!

So this week was GREAT because I skyped my family! It was the first time I saw Willy (my puppy) and didn’t cry too so that was a plus. hahaha no but really it was really refreshing seeing all those shining faces 🙂 Soon…in person. ugh seriously that’s the saddest thing ever and someone reminds me of that every day “wow, you don’t have much time left, huh?” “the time is short. use it well.” “oh that’s exciting, you’ll be out of here soon!” LAME. This is the best experience of my life. I am using the time well entonces no os preocupais.

moving on from THAT….so this week on the 26th at 5am i would up being shaked like crazy. i turned over and asked my companion why she was shaking me and then i only turned to see her in her bed looking at me…she wasn’t shaking me…it was an earthquake. haha again. It seriously woke me up because of how hard it was shaking me. Pretty cool experience, but left me shaking just because i was so scared. haha

TODAY we went to this place called “El TeleferiQo” as a district. It’s super pretty. You take a lift that is completely closed in to the top of the mountain Pichincha and it’s a reeeeally beautiful view of Quito.

beautiful view

I want you all to know that this really is a marvelous time in the history of the world! We are SO. BLESSED. There is a lot of tradgedy and sorrow and war and rumours and chaos that goes on (when has it not?) but when we focus more on God and Christ and their gospel, we are elevated to a higher understanding of it all and we are given to understand the meaning behind it all. We are able to escape all of those hard things and be happy even through hardships. It’s a really sublime feeling. Take more time to pay attention to the silence of the world; the wind, the sky, the forrests, the rolls of the ocean waves, the serenity of the mountains, the wave in the grass, the smell of fresh air, the sensation of the rain (or snow, in the case of many of you)…all of the beautiful creations God has given us to enjoy. Let us focus more on the quiet, comforting, and protecting whisperings of the Holy Ghost.

Have a good one, Hermana Dunne

The week before Christmas……..

Well, it’s a very HOT christmas. I’m pretty sure i got sunburned…again today. Here there are stands all along the streets where everyone sells the same thing; santa hats, nativity scenes, virgins…lots of virgins and saints, lights, and bags of all sorts of candy. It’s kind of cool. Some of the only traditions I’ve heard of is that they eat dinner as a family at midnight tonight and then they exchange gifts.

As for me and my companion, we have plans to be in our house at 6pm, make hot chocolate, make a gingerbread house (Thanks, Jan!!) and STUDYYYY. AYYY! LO MAXIMOOO!

Haha, actually it’s a really interesting point of view this year. Last year I didn’t have this hunger to study the scriptures…just play card games, write letters or sleep…but it’s incredible how much has changed with the time. I can’t believe that I haven’t seen my family–or anyone i know, for that matter–in over a year! It’s weird. But it’s also a really beautiful experience…

This morning we had a gift exchange within our zone so that was fun 🙂 Hna Rojas was my secret santa and she bought me fuzzy cow pajamas…which was cool because every christmas eve with my family I open one gift and it’s ALWAYS pajamas.

Lastly, I’d like to share my testimony of Jesus Christ:

I know that He lives. I know that He governs this world and gospel with His allmighty power. I know that He loves us more than we can even comprehend…He gave everything for us. He has never done anything that has not been for our benefit. He is the perfect example. He is the Only Begotten of the Father. He is our Saviour–He has saved us from both temporal and spiritual death. He taught us His gospel in order to show us the way back to our Celestial Father. He has such an immense amount of love for each and every one of us because He understands us perfectly. He has passed through the exact same pains and sufferings and sorrows as we have. We can trust in Him. I know He comforts us. I know that He is the King of kings even though He was born in the most humble of circumstances. He is patient, full of love and charity, humble, diligent, obedient, full of faith, and He is the reason I am out here. He has saved me from everlasting death. He has saved me from the traps of the adversary. He will come again and every knee shall bend and every tongue shall profess that He is the Christ, the Son of the Omnipotent, Everlasting God, the Redeemer and Saviour of the world. I love Him more than words can express.

A nice firm handshake,

Hermana Dunne

Celebrate the joy Christ brings us with all you know as much as you can!

Hey folks. How ya doinnnn?

I dont know why but i’m in a really good mood today! Probably because i’m about to go buy christmas lights. hehe.

Okay so wow, God really does give us hard times to help us reflect and see what else we can do better. Lots of self reflection this week. You might get to the point where you think “wow, i’ve worked hard for a while now. I think i’m humble!” Then BOOM ya get humbled again. Or “wow I have super strong faith…that was always a struggle, but ya know I feel pretty strong” and then BOOM your faith gets tried! My advice: KEEP AT IT.

Also, I had a strong impression this week while reading in 2Nephi that i needed to share this with you all: Do not be tricked into thinking that all is well. That is how satan deceives you. 2 Nephi 28:20-30 ecplains that satan will deceive us by:
1- Causing us to anger against truth (prophets, commandments, scriptures, leaders)
2- Pacify us and “lull [us] away into carnal security” (thinking we’re okay with what we have and what we’re doing)
3- Flatter us away with things of the world (clothes, money, movies, or anything you give more attention than you do to God)
4- Says there is no devil (THERE IS. And you know it.)
5- Persuade us to deny the power of God and the gift of the Holy Ghost (This week someone told me that the Holy Ghost doesnt exist…that it is just a chemical imbalance that causes us to feel a certain sensation, etc… don’t fall into that trap. God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost live and are as real as you and I are.)
6- Think that “we have received [enough of God’s word] and we need no more!” (verse 29) (read 2 Nephi chapter 29 too)

Christmas dinner at the Presidents house.
Christmas dinner at the Presidents house.

On another note, This week we had our Christmas “dinner” (it was lunch) with President Richardson and his wife!! All of us leaders did a skit and it was super funny but at the end very spiritual.  I had a few epiphanies there.  Jesus Christ really is our Saviour.  This really is GOD’S work and HIS will. If we do our best, we should feel good at the end of the day. God will do the rest always. I love Him dearly.

We can work super hard all day long all week with a bad attitude and see no fruits, or we can work super hard all day long all week with a good attitude and see many fruits hasta milagros. Put it to test. Change your attitude, and you’ll see changes in your life.

Something interesting that my companion shared with me this last week too is that when we receive health blessings, we may have the faith to be healed…..but do we have the faith to NOT be healed? Do we have faith strong enough to accept that maybe God has it in our plan to not be healed? To suffer a little more? To grow a little more through the same hard experience? To learn a little more? Do we trust in God enough to accept whatever trial may come our way and to keep pushing forward? Let us analyze our faith and cause it to grow by reading our scriptures daily, praying always, and going to church every sunday.

I love this work. It feels like time truly is winding down faster and faster every day out here. I’ll be SKYPING MY FAMILY AGAIN next week and two months later I’ll be home. It’s amazing how much you can learn in such little time.

God is great, life is a beautiful mountain range of ups and downs, but in the end the view of it all is priceless.

I hope you all have a really great week! Celebrate the joy Christ brings us with all you know as much as you can! And go visit!! It’s seriously amazing! And the video is very touching.

“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:10)

Buenas tardes a todos! Espero que todos esten super felices hoy! Porque? Porque es un lunes y hay que estar felices, pues! Welp. Here is my new sector in a nutshell: Cold, very high (in altitude), doorbells, strong sun rays.

Not much more to say about that. My companion, Hna Nethercott did Cross Country and her PR was 19:36 for a 5k where mine was 21:21 hahhaha sooooo she’s awesome. Motivating me FOR SURE. We’ve been running every morning but we’re so high up that sometimes it feels like my throat is bleeding when we run hahahhahah but it’s not.Ahem, well i’m sure THAT’S something you all wanted to know. Moving onnnnn…

We put Christmas decorations up 🙂 It’s a happier environment in the house now. We’re not trunky though 🙂 We’re doing swelllllll.

I don’t know how many times this week i’ve seen people deal drugs or sniff something on the streets and look at me…I was only scared a lot. Buuuut we just don’t go down in that part of the city after 6:30 pm. Other than that, todo tranquilooooo!

OH FUN FACT! My companion and I share the exact same birthday. July 13th, 1994! craaaaazy stuff.

This week we had a ward talent show! Hna Nethercott and I sang Silent Night in English for the first two verses and the last one in Spanish. It went well! The 4 elders in our ward start the show off though…they used their clip badges as kazoos and did a christmas song melody. It was pretty funny. There were a few members who went up and sang or played the guitar but I think they mistook the talent show for a concert because they each sang or played 6 songs each…

The people here are different. They have a looooot of money. They are a little more close minded…okay a lot so it’s kind of difficult to teach because not many people want to listen aunque sea por un minuto. But, we’re working hard nevertheless. This sector has potential! We just need to meet the members and work with them more and we’ll see how it all goes. I don’t think i’ve talked so much during the day in my entire life…we’re always doing SOMETHING. So, that gives me hope!

A cool metaphor my companion told me this week is that the gospel is like a portion of food; we are hungry and aren’t satisfied until we eat that portion of food. If we like it, we get more and become even fuller. If we choose not to eat it, our stomach hurts and our body starts to debilitate until we eat that portion of food we need to keep going. From a child’s perspective, we don’t get food unless we’re “good”. It’s the same with our Father in Heaven. He loves us. He has shown us through His gospel, prophets, scriptures, and commandments what we need to be filled and satisfied spiritually. If we are good, and do as He has told us, we are filled with joy and blessings. If we are not, we receive sadness and will not receive a spiritual relief or peace until we do those things.

“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:10) Seek Him. Seek His example, His gospel, and His attributes. You will live a happier life full of strength, enlightenment, and joy. Follow Him.

I love you all and hope to hear from you next week! Thanks for all your support and help 🙂 I hope you have a very merry week!

Hermana Dunne!

I got transferred :( I’m in Ponceano, Ofelia

Hey everyone! Welp, not much time and this keyboard is a little awful…so let’s get to it!

I got transferred 😦 I’m in Ponceano, Ofelia now. It’s a super sad transfer because I wasn’t expecting it at all…and i really came to love everyone in El Vergel…but I mean, what can ya do? It’s God’s will. You just gotta adapt and overcome. That’s how everything in life is, right?

Anyway, last week i had a really bad experience with spirits again…to the point where i couldn’t even THINK to say my prayer. so we sang songs, said a prayer, and commanded it (or them) to leave. scary stuff.

Something interesting I learned this week in a training we received this week is that when 2 people get along it’s either because they’re both obedient or both disobedient. When 2 people don’t get along, it’s because one wants to do the right thing and the other doesn’t care enough. It really is this way. Not just in the mission, but in life as well. If you have problems within your family or marriage, analyze the situation and see how you can care more. Also, read “The Family: A Proclamation for the World” and apply the principles you find there. 🙂

Also, i want to share the experiences we had every day this week with Leonel and Tatiana getting married and baptized so you can see the miracles that happened:

Leonel & Tatiana's wedding
Leonel & Tatiana’s wedding

monday– Leonel couldnt get the marriage date because he didn’t have all the witness information.

tuesday–he didn’t have an ORIGINAL copy of the documents he needed from witnesses so he still couldnt get assigned a date.

wednesday– FINALLY GOT A DATE (almost wasn’t an opening until monday until they double checked)

thursday– Leonel wanted a tie and suit and a dress for his wife
and really scrambled finding them

friday–One of the witnesses got to the Registro Civil ten minutes late so they almost didn’t get married, but luckily they found a way to just make us wait an hour…

yay they did it!
yay they did it!

saturday–They couldn’t enter the baptismal faunt for a while because the water was too hot (hmmm reminds me of my baptism!) so we had to wait a while

sunday–they got confirmed members of Jesus Christ’s church!

their baptism and Tatiana's daughters.

Really this was probably the happiest week of my whole mission. They are amazing people and they were able to do all they did because of their faith and prayers…they seriously are very, very converted to the Lord and His gospel. It’s amazing. 🙂 I love them so much.

Well, I just want you all to know that God really still is a God of miracles and that truly by our faith,we see them. I know this gospel is true. I have seen more miracles this week than in my whole mission. Search the scriptures. Apply them to your lives. Live what you learn. Blessings and miracles will come.
